My Take: I thought this book was pretty good. I really enjoyed the characters and the mystery and will read other books by this author. Pat, Jackie and Gwen all own a used book store called Ziodiac's Rare and Used Books. Jackie is wealthy, Gwen is a psychiatrist and Gwen lives above the store and manages the bookstore. Their frined Nicole is a former cop turned private investigator. The story opens with Jackie being kidnapped the other ladies trying to rescue her. The bookstore is ransacked so t [...]

A very entertaining treasure hunt and thriller, somewhat reminiscent of the "Sisterhood" series by Fern Michaels with its mixed group of heroes. Jean Sheldon has written an adventure based on legend and history from the invasion of the Spanish conquistadors in the 1500s and the discovery of a journal presumably dated from 1539.The reader is brought into the story very quickly with the abduction of Jacqueline Tracy, who has unwittingly purchased this journal at a book auction because she liked th [...]

After struggling to finish this book I'm not convinced this story ever reached it's full potential. I felt that if the author had made the book longer then she also could have made the story far more interesting. It seemed that too much time was spent on preliminary events in the beginning of the book and not nearly enough time spent on the climax of the story, and for me there were a few too many characters to keep track of and to keep my interest. At times I found it difficult to keep track of [...]

This is a good summer read with an adventure sparked by the kidnapping of one woman and the ransacking of a bookstore. The discovery of the cause, an old Spanish journal purported to reveal the route to the fabled seven cities of gold, leads a group of middle aged women on a quest to the southwest. On their trail is a dangerous, apparently psychopathic, millionaire also from Chicago. Are there millions in gold waiting? Will they survive their adventure? Once the trip to New Mexico begins the pac [...]

Seven Cities of Greed by Jean Sheldon is an entertaining mystery designed for readers who like the unexpected. An ancient journal purporting to contain the location of seven mythical cities of gold in the Arizona desert comes into the hands of a bookstore owner and her friends. Murder and mayhem accompany the steps of the five women who want to follow the clues and, incidentally discover who is out to get them!

I liked this book but thooght it was a little silly at times, especially with the tricks played on Barnes. Over all, it held my interest and was a quick read.
