      This was a book a got for free while working at Crown Books in Gurnee, Illinois in high school. It was a national chain store that went bankrupt after I'd worked there for two years. They were simply allowing us to just take whatever we'd like towards the tail end of going out of business, something many of us already did regularly (just not so openly) beforehand.       I had this sent to me when I was in the joint after reading a blisteringly negative review by Ken Tucker in Entertainment Weekly. After reading what Tucker had written about Madsen and his style-- all of it bad-- I figured it would be right up my alley. I was right. Madsen's poetry is unpretentious and he writes in a clear and easy to understand manner (which is probably why wags like Ken Tucker sniff and say it is not poetry--Tucker thinks Bukowski is a fraud, as well).
