      This reads like a middle school book report in some rural Catholic school where most the parents voted for Trump. I should've suspected this considering the author is a professor at Steubenville, where understanding reality is second to pushing a 'traditionalist' agenda.

      As Dr. Schreck states in the Preface, this book is a compilation of "a series of simple lessons on the history of the Catholic Church" for a group setting. Thus it "provides a non-technical introductory overview of the Catholic Church and its history." In this it delivers.       You may think it's impossible to write a decent history of the Catholic Church in 181 pages. You'd be right. Alan Schreck attempted to do it, and largely failed. The only reason this gets a second star is that unlike most other books on Church history, he actually spends a decent amount of time in the 18-20th centuries showing how the French Revolution and the Enlightenment gave us the Western world we have to do.
